Surrey Pickleball offers DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) sessions.WHAT IS DUPR? DUPR is a global rating system used to accurately reflect a player’s skill level, regardless of age, gender, or location. DUPR is used by Clubs to ensure equitable matchmaking, for Club members to monitor and track their progress, and it acts as a global benchmark for Club members to assess their skills. DUPR is now recognised and used exclusively by most major pickleball associations. HOW IT WORKS By playing against other DUPR registered players and recording those matches with DUPR you get your DUPR rating. Those accustomed to a conventional rating system, with ratings ranging from 2.0 to 5.0, will find their DUPR rating fits within that scale, while at the top end, the professional ratings are expanded above 5.0 up to 8.0. Ben Johns, the current #1 male player, has a DUPR rating of 7.4.; Anna Leigh Waters, the current #1 women player, is 6.67. DUPR’s algorithm considers three factors:
Note: Scores entered by clubs and/or tournaments are viewed as more accurate and count more than scores recorded by individuals. JOIN SPC "DUPR" SESSIONS If you are Interested in getting your DUPR score through SPC, join one of the DUPR round robin play sessions offered on the scheduled.
WHAT TO EXPECT Members who sign up to a DUPR session will be put into groups of 4-5 players that are of similar ratings/skills every session. Scores are by points won, and win/loss record. The Club enters all the information into the DUPR website. Scoring sheets will be all signed by each player to ensure the scores are accurate, and no one cheated or changed the score without anyone noticing. Please note: given this is a new initiative, and as many SPC members will not have an initial DUPR rating, it will take a couple of weeks to get an accurate rating for all Club members, so the first few DUPR sessions will be a mix of different levels. This should not last long, though, and within a month DUPR groups should be pretty accurate. |
